Convergent Modeling supports b-rep modeling operations on facet bodies without conversion
Solid Edge seamlessly combines traditional “b-rep” solid models with triangular mesh models without time-consuming and error-prone conversions. Convergent Modeling by Siemens allows for traditional b-rep operations on digitally scanned 3D data and models born out of generative design, reducing rework while supporting modern additive manufacturing processes for complex shapes.
Work on mesh models with the same commands you use on b-rep models
Convergent modeling enables you to work seamlessly with the mesh-based models created using generative design and reverse engineering. Perform traditional operations on:
Digitally scanned 3D data
Convergent Modeling simplifies the process of working with scanned data. Scanned 3D data is imported in Solid Edge as faceted, or mesh, data so that you can immediately start designing—no lengthy conversion process, no manual shape creation and no need to build surfaces.
Models created using generative design
With Convergent Modeling, the optimized components coming out of generative design can be sent directly for additive manufacturing or analysis, or further modified in Solid Edge. The meshed results are seamlessly integrated into the normal model editing process, allowing you to get the final design needed for the task at hand. No more waiting for tedious, inaccurate conversions from triangular mesh to b-rep.
Components for additive manufacturing
Whether your designs are created using traditional modeling, generative design or imported from a 3D scanner, they can used directly for 3D printing, mold design, analysis and more. Convergent Modeling removes limitations by giving designers the flexibility to bring optimized shapes from concept to reality, taking advantage of the materials and techniques of additive manufacturing.
Leverage b-rep and mesh geometries in the same model
Unique hybrid modeling capabilities allow b-rep and mesh geometries to coexist in the same model for downstream assembly use, speeding workflows and making mesh models even more useful. Removing the need to convert mesh or b-rep geometry in order for them to work together reduces model development time.
Simulation on convergent models
Simulation studies can be performed on convergent models created using generative design and reverse engineering without the need for conversion to b-rep. Such models include Generative Design Optimized, STL, and Converted Mesh models, with the ability to analyze these hybrid models for various study types to verify designs.

Current Topics
Facet data has become more common and valuable in engineering workflows, with the emergence of high precision, low cost, 3D scanning, medical scanning and 3D printing. But the benefits of using facet data are reduced by the need for one-way, one time conversion to b-rep format, which is often time-consuming and error prone for numerous technical reasons.
