2D Nesting in Solid Edge
2D Nesting in Solid Edge
Save time and material costs in manufacturing
Solid Edge 2D Nesting leverages the most advanced, efficient nesting engine to generate best-in-class layouts optimized for two-dimensional cutting of sheet metal, wood, and other materials.
Nested cutting patterns reduce time, waste and cost when creating 2D shapes common in today’s products.
In the video, we demonstrate how you can quickly select which Solid Edge files you want to nest, and how flat pattern data is then automatically extracted, accelerating productivity.
Once you select your parts, Solid Edge identifies shapes with potential issues that need to be further investigated. This allows users to make informed decisions about whether certain cuts can be made, or if a redesign is required. Once complete, parts can be sent for nesting. Additional Solid Edge files, or other industry-standard formats like DWG or DXF, can be added as well.
Solid Edge allows you to conduct preliminary checks on part sizes to ensure they fit within the constraints of the machine tool being used. Also, quantities of parts can be easily adjusted all with great visual feedback on what is being selected. Once complete, sheet sizes can be selected. Multiple size sheets can even be selected to make the nesting process more efficient.
While the nesting process is running, Solid Edge continuously improves the nest, searching for the perfect combination of sheet sizes to reduce waste. You can use different sheet sizes simultaneously for an added advantage. In the example shown in the video, the most efficient nest can be selected based on sheet utilization, or which nest results in the smallest amount of leftover material.
Exporting the nests for manufacturing is quick and easy, using industry standard formats. The nests can also be sent to Solid Edge so additional drawings or reports can be created, or to create toolpaths in Solid Edge CAM Pro.
