Rurok Industries redefines mountain biking with passion, innovation and generative design
P. J. Tolentino turned his passion – mountain biking – into a business. He wanted his company, Rurok, to distinguish itself from the competition through innovation, leveraging rider experience and feedback and using cutting-edge technology and tools. Developing high-end, precision-engineered mountain bikes is challenging, especially for a small company with limited resources. Innovative bike design requires a comprehensive testing and prototyping process. “Creating physical prototypes is very costly and time-consuming,” explains Tolentino. “We had to thoroughly test our designs before we went into production. We were always working on uncharted waters and 99 percent of the time our early prototypes didn’t work very well.” Using Solid Edge, provided to the company as part of the Solid Edge Startup Program, Rurok has been able to streamline its prototyping process, reducing development time for parts by 20 percent and greatly reducing engineering costs. In addition, by leveraging generative design capabilities, the company was able to create innovative new designs, while improving performance with parts that are 50 percent stiffer and 20 percent lighter.
„Bikes should move forward, progress and get better, just as the rider does.“
P. J. Tolentino, founder and head engineer, Rurok Industries
